I love Christmas Day. On Dec. 25th, it’s all about hanging out with family, eating, and watching the kids love the day.
I’m not too thrilled with the period between the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday) to the day before Christmas, however. Too much commercialism and pressure to participate in such.
I much prefer the time after Christmas. The week before New Year’s Day is really relaxing. I love that week.
And then January comes and the kids go back to school just in time! The weather is crisp and bright and clear. I think it’s beautiful the way the low sun hits the variation of tones of wood of the tree trunks and branches- much more texture and pattern than when the leaves are on the trees.
I walk my dog through the woods and don’t have to worry about ticks, chiggers, mosquitoes, or gnats. The water from the creek is clear.
And I really enjoy my patterns and rituals. It’s difficult to get into good patterns during the holiday season- and when the kids go back to school and I go back to work, my life is much more predictable and I accomplish a lot more both professionally and personally, which in the end, makes my life more enjoyable.
