Courage: /ker-ig/ – mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty

While riding the Metro with my son a couple of months ago, we stopped into the new Friendship Heights Whole Foods to take a look.  I snapped this picture…

It doesn’t make sense to me that WF is simply not removing the “red” products (or the “yellow”, for that matter). Why wait? It’s wrong to sell threatened species of seafood and I wish WF would gather the courage and leadership to remove these products from their shelves.

I don’t feel comfortable speaking negatively of other grocers. As a matter of fact, I think WF has had a positive impact for a couple of decades on the way this country thinks about food and the environment.

However, when I think of all of the people throughout history who have summoned HUGE amounts of courage and sacrifice to advance society, I am so humbled and grateful. Sometimes, the majority is wrong and the world won’t change without the courage of the minority.
